Worth a try if they're within your budget, but if they're not, there's nothing you can't do with a dip nib. I agree with Sirobw that parallels are good, but they're a bit more expensive. Just about any ink is fine for broad pen scripts, though acrylic ink is a bit annoying to clean off nibs if it dries on, and can be a bit harder to get hairlines with. You can pad out the grips with masking tape (or sticking-plaster-type cloth tape) and cotton wool. A lot of the more expensive prettily painted ones are actually worse in my opinion because they're shiny and thin, which makes maintaining a good grip uncomfortable. Special thanks to /u/slter for our wonderful "CALLIGRAPHY" logo at the top of the subreddit.Īny of the dip nibs listed on the wiki should be good (though I've only tried Mitchell and Brause).Īny old nib holder will do, though I prefer the triangular cross-section ones. r/BrushCalligraphy /r/Scribes r/shodo (書道) r/shufa (書法) r/arabiccalligraphy r/calligraffiti r/illuminatedmanuscript r/ornamentalpenmanship r/handwriting r/lettering r/signpainting r/typography r/graffiti names, addresses) must be obscured or replaced by obvious fakes or placeholders.
